The Genesis

The Midwest is on the upswing. Some of the most intriguing new music has been coming from these parts lately and people are sleeping on it. Of course we have our big names like everywhere else (Common, Kanye, Bone Thugs, Lupe, etc.) but lurking in the shadows of these giants is a well of talent that is largely unrecognized. There are artist coming out of STL, Chicago, Kansas City, Wichita, and most importantly my hometown Springfield that are making their mark on this part of the country and creating a shmorgishborg of art that needs attention. That alone is the reason I wanted to create this blog. Springfield's Honeycomb Hideout will be a platform to lift these local artists up and showcase the talent in our area.

To start off with I want to post a music video made locally by some friends of mine in a band called Benefit of a Doubt. They recently released a new album "Academia" and this video for their song "I am the Beast".

This was all made locally by friends and members of the band. I was lucky to be able to be involved and am really impressed with the finished product. If you like the song I encourage you to check out their other work at their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/benefitofadoubt

One.
