Mac Lethal

Mac Lethal is and has been killing it. Nothing has changed about that. He has gotten a lot of attention for the recent youtube video in which he monster trucks "Look at Me Now" while cookin' up delicious pancakes. Hopefully this encourages people to delve a little more into his music. It is worth every second.

Check some of the videos and links below.

Red Stag and Sprite

Mask and Glove played again last night and Loogey was able to jump on. Lucas and Nick Fury are exactly what good is. I encourage everyone to come out and support those guys to the fullest. You could get a taste of it at their old myspace: http://www.myspace.com/brieflisten. Loogey and Trey B (with Ku Pon and C-Mo) opened up and somewhere along the way Nas shed a tear.

A lot of people have been coming out to these shows a lot longer than I have. The past two nights it seems like the turnout has been nice but still lacking. In my opinion there is some serious talent here in town and they make it fun to watch. It's only going to get better.

Check out everyone that played.

Wake Up: F. Stokes

F. Stokes has become one of my favorite artist. Loogey was able to catch him playing in K.C. with Mac Lethal and picked up the album. That very copy hasn't left my car yet (sorry Loog). The entire album is produced by Lazerbeak, a member of the Minneapolis based Doomtree crew, and every track is excellent. Check F. Stokes website: http://www.fdotstokes.com/ and support.

Loogey

My dude Loogey opened for Mask & Glove last night at the Highlife Martini Lounge. He has been on this hip hop thing for awhile now but just recently took his headphones off long enough to start playing shows. If you haven't had a chance to hear him check it out on his Facebook: Loogey

The Genesis

The Midwest is on the upswing. Some of the most intriguing new music has been coming from these parts lately and people are sleeping on it. Of course we have our big names like everywhere else (Common, Kanye, Bone Thugs, Lupe, etc.) but lurking in the shadows of these giants is a well of talent that is largely unrecognized. There are artist coming out of STL, Chicago, Kansas City, Wichita, and most importantly my hometown Springfield that are making their mark on this part of the country and creating a shmorgishborg of art that needs attention. That alone is the reason I wanted to create this blog. Springfield's Honeycomb Hideout will be a platform to lift these local artists up and showcase the talent in our area.

To start off with I want to post a music video made locally by some friends of mine in a band called Benefit of a Doubt. They recently released a new album "Academia" and this video for their song "I am the Beast".

This was all made locally by friends and members of the band. I was lucky to be able to be involved and am really impressed with the finished product. If you like the song I encourage you to check out their other work at their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/benefitofadoubt
